About The Class

The Silver Obedience Course aims to build on the skills learned in the Bronze award while increasing the level of difficulty. This course is a natural progression of practical dog training skills and introduces new concepts such as greeting a friend, vehicle control, and a road walking exercise which are vital in everyday life situations. This course is assessed by the class instructor and includes the following exercises:

  1. Play with the Dog: Demonstrate that the dog will play with its handler in a controlled manner.
  2. Road Walk: Test the dog's ability to walk on a lead under control on a public highway, including navigating distractions.
  3. Rejoin Handler: The dog should remain steady off lead and rejoin the handler when instructed.
  4. Stay in One Place for Two Minutes: The dog will stay on the spot while the handler moves away for two minutes.
  5. Vehicle Control: Demonstrate controlled behaviour while getting in and out of a vehicle.
  6. Come Away from Distractions: The dog should return to the handler promptly when called away from distractions.
  7. Controlled Greeting: The dog should not jump up when being greeted.
  8. Food Manners: The dog should display good manners when aware of food.
  9. Examination of the Dog: The dog should allow inspection of its body by a stranger, similar to a veterinary examination.

Dogs and owners of any fitness level or disability can take part. The course is non-competitive, and emphasis is placed on the standard of achievement. However, we regret that the insurance policy of this club does not permit XL Bully Type, Cane Corso Type, American Bulldog Type, or any breed banned in the United Kingdom to attend this training course.
