The Dog Training Club Charitable Trust has always recognised that access to expert dog training advice and support dramatically improves the lives and outcomes for dogs, enhancing their health and welfare while greatly benefiting the local community.
To support dog owners on low incomes, the Trust offers a scheme providing vouchers to help cover all or part of the cost of dog training, either online or at a local dog club.
Applying for this assistance is private, confidential, and quick. Simply visit the community area of this website to complete the online application. Successful applicants will receive a voucher code by email, usually within 24 hours.

Supporting Dog Charities through Grants and Donations
Grants And Support
The Dog Training Club Charitable Trust provides grants and donations on behalf of The Dog Training Club members to support canine charities and organisations focusing on dog health, welfare, assistance dogs, rescues, and veterinary treatment for dogs in need.
Typically, the Trust awards grants or donations of up to £1,000 per individual grant, favouring smaller dog charities and organisations.

How to Nominate a Charitable Cause
Nominations for grants must be initiated by current members of The Dog Training Club via the community area of this website. Please note, we only make grants to UK registered charities and never to individuals.
The Board of Trustees meets twice a year, typically in April and October, to consider and approve grants. Once approved, the organisation is contacted, and the grant is paid.
In rare or special circumstances where there is an urgent need, the trustees may make grant awards by special resolution outside of their normal meetings.

The William (Bill) Dickens Memorial Trophy
Annual Member of the Year Award
The Dog Training Club Charitable Trust is proud to oversee the annual Member of the Year Award, designed to recognise an individual who has made an outstanding contribution through their love of dogs and has exemplified the values of our mission.
The winner is presented the prestigious William (Bill) Dickens Memorial Trophy—an 18-inch silver trophy donated to the Trust in 2003. This the trusts highest, award is given in memory of William Dickens, the late husband of our Trust's first Patron, Ella Dickens of the Lugari affix.
While there is no formal nomination process, the Board of Trustees invites nominations for recipients by using the link below.
Nominations are reviewed at the Board Of Trustees meeting each October. The recipient is invited to a special lunch and presentation.
The award celebrates those who have gone above and beyond for dogs and uphold the Trust's values.
To be considered for this prestigious award, the nominee must:

Be over 18 years of age.

Be of good standing and a current member of The Dog Training Club.

Not have been a trustee or officer of the Trust or The Dog Training Club for more then six months.

Central Bedfordshire Canine Trust establishes The Dog Training Club Charitable Trust 2024
In 2003, Pat Gregory (Eidas) and her son Gary Gregory founded the Lugari Dog Club at The Scout Hall in Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire. The club was named after the Lugari affix of William (Bill) and Helen (Ella) Dickens, who were the breeders of Pat's first German Shepherd Dogs and formed the foundation bloodline of Pat's Eidas Kennel in the 1970's. Pat later expanded her focus to Shelties, Corgis, and more recently, PBGVs and Golden Retrievers. Ella and Bill had established and run the Linslade GSD and All Breeds Training Club from the 1970s until 1997, where Pat had served as an instructor. Initially centred on Ring Craft Training, the Lugari Dog Club soon broadened its scope to include Obedience Training as well.
In 2005 The Lugari Dog Club established the Lugari Community Foundation Trust which raised money for and took on a building in Tavistock Street, Dunstable where the club moved its dog training classes and offices to.
In 2008, with the creation of the new Central Bedfordshire Council, the Lugari Dog Club and Lugari Community Foundation Trust merged to become The Central Bedfordshire Canine Trust, a registered charity. This transition enabled the newly formed trust to broaden its charitable activities, and it successfully secured a grant from The Big Lottery Fund to establish its Canine Sports Academy for Flyball and Agility Training, headed By Gary Gregory. Ella Dickens stepped down as Patron, and Mr Jo Spencer was appointed Patron of the new trust, and Mr James Maxwell was appointed President. The trust relocated its Obedience and Ring Craft training classes to Kensworth Village Hall in Dunstable, and new Agility and Flyball classes were established at Nash Farm, Kensworth.
In March 2020, the UK was struck by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Trust was compelled to suspend all training activities and release emergency funds to cover costs and provide grants during the closure. Tragically, in August 2020, the Trust received the sad news of the passing of its Patron, Jo Spencer. The Trust's activities remained on hold due to the pandemic until April 2022. At a Special General Meeting in April 2022, the Trust prioritised the reestablishment of Obedience and Ring Craft classes at Kensworth Village Hall but decided to keep the Canine Sports Academy's Agility and Flyball classes closed.
After two years of reopening following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Special General Meeting of the Trust in June 2024 determined that the Trust was once again in a stable position to reopen grants and donations and plan for the future.
Patricia Gregory (Eidas), original co-founder and Chairperson for 21 years, was appointed Patron, Sue Malster was appointed the Vice-President.
Recognising the need to adapt to modern trends and the digital age, the Trust decided to reimagine its services and activities. The Trust members' meeting established and granted funding for Central Bedfordshire Canine Trust to become a member society as a new independent club, to continue the existing Obedience and Ring Craft training classes. This move allowed the main charity to rebrand and rename to The Dog Training Club Charitable Trust to focus more on its core charitable activities. The meeting appointed the first committee to the Central Bedfordshire Canine Trust.
To broaden its reach and enhance its charitable profile, the Trust collaborated with marketing specialists to work on the launch a new online and social media presence through a platform called The Dog Training Club.

As a Registered Charity in England and Wales, The Dog Training Club Charitable Trust operates under the guidance of a dedicated volunteer Board of Trustees. These individuals, committed to our cause, convene and meet twice annually to approve the award of grants and to oversee the strategic direction and governance of the charity. Trustees are elected in accordance with our charity Deed Of Trust.
The Trust as a charity publishes it annual accounts with The Charity Commission for England and Wales for the public record and details of notices and grants and donations made are published below.
The Dog Training Club head office and staff act as secretariat for The Dog Training Club Charitable Trust supporting the Board Of Trustees and dealing with delegated matters between Board of Trustees Meetings.
